Beep beep

India

Where to start…

Hello to dirty, gritty, smelly India, a place where you’re never alone and everyone is your friend. “my friend, come see my shop”, “my friend, just looking” “cigarettes?” “Rickshaw?” “A dentist?” “Clean your ears?!” “my friend…why you goooooo, my friend” .

After two days in Delhi, we arrived in Rishikesh yesterday evening. It was a trying journey even in Indian standards, expecting a 6 hour trip we spent the first 3 looking for the bus, sweating buckets in the heat with our backpacks on. The fine tourist bus we where promised turned into not much more then a public bus, stopping endlessly to pickup and drop off locals. Finally, 4 rickshaws, one bus, and 12 hours later we arrived at our destination, Rishikesh at night.

Now sitting on the balcony looking at the view for the first time Duncan has started a sketch of the Lakmanjhula bridge, and I am writing these lines. This kind of journalistic free writing is new to me I have always written my thoughts down from a young age but never really thought about sharing it with others, I don’t know if this is interesting for you or not, As far as writing goes I’m a songwriter, I sometimes find it easier to fit the experience into a song, here’s one I have written about my first days in India.

life is like a box of chocolates

melting in the Delhi heat

mixing all the different flavours

wheeling dealing bitter sweet

Lets get the helli out of Delhi

two days is much too long

I missed you but I’m ready to leave now

Easier said the done

all day long cars are screeching

incessant like bleating sheep

rickshaw driver cutting corners

escaping like a fleeting thief

Rush rush, beep beep

Namastye Gee, what you eat

Rubbish rubbish, sweep sweep

Watch your feet, beep beep

Rush rush, beep beep

Sweat sweat, heat heat

Walk talk, sleep sleep

Dust and rain, beep beep

Lets get the helli out of Delhi …

Booked my journey I set off early

Shame I couldn’t find the bus

head to the mountains sit by the river

the Lakmanjhula bridge we cross

Rush rush, beep beep

Sweat sweat, heat heat

Walk talk, sleep sleep

Dust and rain, beep beep

Lets get the helli out of Delhi …
